I am going to have to figure out a better way to focus for some closer pix. This crowed entrance will be a great place to see if they have pollen on their legs as they go in. HoneyBees buzzing all around me, but none even landed on me this time out. I was about 3 feet from the Hive. I am going to have to get in closer for some macro shots if this camera will do them. I barrowed my daughters digital canon for this one.

So Jim came over today before his trip to visit his (grown) kids out of state. The bees had started building some comb up into the empty space above where the frames were. (See video tomorrows post) Jim put more frames on to allow the brood to expand while he is gone for a month. We will be checking on the progress while he is gone and reporting here so everyone can see how things are growing. Tomorrow I’ll put the video up, I was there at the hives while he inspected and added the new frames. Honey Bees are fascinating, I saw a couple on his back and took a couple Pix, in the first they were apart then they came together, and “talked” honeybee style. I was able to just put my finger up to them to climb on, and then place them on a flower so they could work their way back into the beehive on their own. Jim used “liquid smoke” in a special bottle to mist the wild comb area and the bees just left it. He was able to scrape it off without incident and it was empty so no harm no fouls. One of the pictures I took also had a bee with pollen on his legs; he was resting on one of the new frames.

Here is a pix of the hive entrance. The honeybees have only been here a short time, but we have had some good warm days lately and the beekeeper tells me that they will get out and about. I have seen the pollen on their legs as they land and go into the hive. Apparently alot of folks are beekeepers. My wife told me the next Martha Stewart magazine is going to be all about bees and beekeeping. Martha has been a beekeeper for years.
